I really enjoyed and loved reading this wonderful book of was so lovely written. The author of this book is a very good writer. I loved the relationship between Carver and Aiden. I loved that they got their happy ending. I loved the twists and turns and the edge of the seat action in this book. This story is about Aiden and Carver. Aiden and Carver used to play together when they were little kids until one day Aiden and Carver were playing too close to a ravine and Aiden started to fall, Carver managed to stop his fall by biting his leg while in wolf form. What Aiden and Carver don’t know is that when a shifter bites another shifter in animal form the bite become a mate’s mark. The big problem is that Aiden is a Mule Deer shifter and Carver is a Wolf shifter. So now we have predator and prey that are now supposed to be mates. Just a little bit complicated. When Aiden and Carver find out what the bite means they stop being friends and stay away from each other, but that only works for so long. Carver has been having dreams about Aiden and according to his alpha it has to do with their connection through the mate mark. Carver tries to reconnect with Aiden and find out whether there can be more between them. Aiden is frustrated that because of the mark on his leg he is destined to be alone and with rutting season about to start again he is tired of being alone. So when Carver shows up for dinner with the other mule deer Aiden is surprised to see him and suspicious about why he is there. When they make it through dinner without incident and Aiden wanders down to the lake he is surprised that Carver follows him and when Carver kisses him out of the blue he thinks that Carver is playing with him and completely confuses him. Carver has been terrorizing and killing some of the rancher’s cattle and the ranchers are going to start taking matters into their hands considering the wolves are on the endangered species list and are protected. When Aiden over hears some of the ranchers saying they will be shooting at the wolf the next time they see him and when they describe the wolf he knows that they are talking about Carver. Aiden goes to Carver and tells him what he overheard after dinner they end up by the lake again but this time they give into the passion between them, however afterword Aiden is ashamed at what they did and rejects Carver. Carver turns wolf and runs off. He ends up back at the cattle ranchers place and gets shot by buckshot in the shoulder. As he runs away he realizes that he is far from home and bleeding out. Aiden finds Carver and gets him to the doctor and he recovers. They declare their love for each other and live happily ever after. I really enjoyed this book. I liked how they are fated to each other but with the twist of being prey and predator animals. Talk about complete opposites. The author did a great job with the story line and character development. I can’t wait to read more books by this author. She fast becoming one of my favorites. A more mismatched pair of shifters you couldn't get. After all, who would'a thunk a mule deer and a werewolf could be intended mates. It took a saving but unintentional bite by Carver when he saved Aiden from an over-the-cliff fall ten years before to lead to their present fought over relationship. Carver wants Aiden but Aiden doesn't acknowledge Carver's claim. This is a great example of a lack of common communication skills. The story was short but I liked it a lot. I'm glad I was given this as an ARC.
This was a great twist on the usual idea of the mating mark and what it means. I was amused at the way each of the guys handled it--Carver especially, reminding me of boys who tease the girls they like. Carver's mischievous humor was one of my favorite things about the book and I shook my head at his moments of bad judgment. There are lots of neat touches to the story how the weredeer lived and worked, the role the wolves had in the park, and the idea of what challenges a deer and a wolf would have with each other (prey and predator). The heat factor was about a medium--some good scenes but not overwhelming the story or getting kinky. Great find from a new-to-me author.

There's nothing "normal" about this paranormal shifter tale. Fated mates Aiden and Carver have a problem. I mean besides the fact that Aiden continues to deny their love for each other. Aiden is mule deer shifter, while Carver is a werewolf. Hard to get around that whole vegetarian/omnivore thing, but the guilt involved because Carver's Pack is shrinking, and Aiden just has hang-ups about his own sexuality undermine the growth of their relationship.
For a work this short, both the characters and plot are well-written. This is the first gay romance I've ever read, and I don't know if anyone else can do so well. The sex is, while somewhat graphic, well done. I wouldn't go so far as to call this erotica, because the physical expression of love and desire flowed well with the story. It's really a simple love story.
The writing is pretty good. There are a few typos, which seems to be normal for this medium. There are some minor grammar and usage errors, but nothing you can't just skim over.
I think a longer work would have allowed for a more suspenseful story, as well as add some depth to angst. In fact, I'd like to have seen more angst. What can I say? I like the full gamut of emotion that a good writer can bring.

I received a free copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. I just finished reading it and I have to say that I LOVED it! This story was so different from anything that I have read, the fated mates were Carver, a predator shifter and Aiden, a prey shifter. The two were inseparable as kids who often got into all all sorts of trouble. During one such escapade, Aiden starts to fall off a cliff and is saved by Carver who has to shift to use his speed, strength and teeth to save him.
This bite scars and though it is not on the usual spot of the junction of neck and shoulder, Carver thinks it is a mating bite while Aiden refuses to believe that it is. The boys lose their friendship as Carver begins to pick on Aiden at every opportunity.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a story with a different twist. The only thing I would like is a follow-up to see more of their lives!
